Obituary of Arthur Sampognaro
Arthur Sampognaro, age 86 years old, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 5th, 2018. Arthur was also known as Art, Dad, "UncleDad", Friend, and Uncle Art.
Arthur was born on September 21st, 1931, in Omaha, Nebraska to Sam and Mary (Circo) Sampognaro. Art later moved to the Monterey Peninsula as a young boy. He attended Monterey High School and graduated in 1950 and was on the undefeated MHS football team that same year. Art joined the U.S. Navy and fought in the Korean War. He was a well-respected businessman and built a successful ZENITH T.V. sales and repair business, Ord Terrace TV in Seaside, CA, which was one of the very first T.V. stores in the area. Art was also known in the community as the Pop Warner Football Coach who mentored many youths including his son and nephews.
Art held a strong love of animals, a passion for all sports (Particularly football). Well versed in politics, and was incredibly devoted to his family. Art is survived by his children, Sandra McDonald of San Diego, and Mark Sampognaro of Del Rey Oaks, his ex-wife and friend, Susan Sampognaro, 3 grandchildren, sister-in-law, Eleonora Sampognaro of Monterey, nieces, Maryann Sampognaro of Monterey, and Catherine Sampognaro of Del Rey Oaks (who he referred to as "babies"), and nephews, Paul, Joseph, and Gerald Sampognaro all of Monterey.
All are welcome to attend a Funeral Service held on Thursday, April 12th, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, CA. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will immediately follow the Funeral Service at Mission Memorial park in Seaside, CA.
