Obituary of Tokie Hagita Spitz

Tokie Hagita Spitz passed away in Monterey on Aug. 5, 2015. She was born on June 1, 1935 and had recently celebrated her 80th birthday with a joyful seaside dinner with her family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, U.S. Army Sgt. First Class James Spitz (Ret.); her son, Tom Spitz of Tucson, Arizona; her daughter, Bonny Spitz of Marina; her daughter-in-law, Jill Jorden Spitz of Tucson; her grandson, Quinn Spitz of Tucson; her sister, Mariko Ikegami of Tokyo, Japan; various nieces and nephews in Japan, and her beloved cats Mimi and Kana. Tokie was raised in Chiba, a suburb of Tokyo, with her three brothers and her sister. She was a member of a traditional Japanese dance troupe which traveled throughout Japan. It was while performing in Okinawa, she met her future husband. She married Jim on October 22, 1958 and came to the United States. They spent most of their life together at Fort Ord and in Marina. Tokie was a masterful Japanese cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. Over the years, she enjoyed crochet, Japanese doll making and ceramics. She was a longtime member of a Japanese bowling league and loved to spend time with her family, shop, play bingo, and watch her favorite Japanese cable TV channel. Her warm smile and loving spirit will live on in the many people who loved her. A private Celebration of Life will be held on a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to the American Diabetes Association .
