Obituary of Michael S. Troian

Carmel, CA Michael S. Troian, 87, a long-time Peninsula resident, died peacefully at home in his sleep on Friday, November 27, 2015. Born May 30, 1928 in Paris, France, he lived through the German occupation during World War II. His mother was in charge of VIPs for Trans World Airlines in Paris. With the help of a fellow TWA employee, Dr. John Furbay a.k.a. "The most traveled man in the world", Michael received immigration papers. In December 1949, he fulfilled his wish to go to the United States. He received a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Denver and graduated with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Airline Transportation. After his graduation, he traveled back to New York and worked for TWA, while studying for his master's degree at Columbia University, graduating in 1954. While in New York he met his future wife, Beatrice, and they were married in 1955. Soon thereafter he joined the U.S. Army, spending his enlistment in Alaska as a supply clerk. He also became an American Citizen. After a short time back in New York, he and Beatrice moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked as a senior analyst for the Denver State Welfare Department. Beatrice died of a brain tumor in 1960. They had no children. While in Denver in December of 1963, he met his second wife, Rosemary. They were married in 1964. They moved the family to Carmel in 1971, while Michael was employed in scheduling the students at the Naval Post Graduate School. They raised their 2 daughters here. In 1986, they were divorced. In 2002, he retired from the Naval Post Graduate School. He met his current wife, Audrey, in 2002. They married in 2008. His passion was visiting France to see his family there, which he did often throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Carmel; his daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Timothy Dodge, of San Diego; and his two grandchildren, Dakota and Cassidy. His daughter, Theresa Riley, preceded him in death. There are no services planned. Inurnment will be with Theresa at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
