Obituary of Marian C. Woods

Marian Curtis Woods was born on July 3, 1921 and raised in Muskogee Oklahoma to Lee and Sally Sykes. Marian lived through the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma as a child, and lost her mother to cancer at age 9. Just after high school at age 18, she left the small town of Muskogee, Oklahoma for a job with the US Coast Guard in Washington D.C. She eventually married Ernest L. Woods in 1945. As a military wife, Marian had the opportunity to travel and live in Japan and Germany along with several different states, eventually settling on the Monterey Peninsula in 1955. She raised 3 sons and had a 26 year career with the Monterey Peninsula School District, mostly at Monterey High School. She was a membership of Red Hat Ladies, Bakersfield and the VFW in Salinas. Marian was a devoted mother, wife, and friend. She was especially close with her grandchildren and will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest L. Woods, son Steven D. Woods, and youngest son Jimmie L. Woods. She is survived by her son Michael Woods. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospital Of the Monterey Peninsula(CHOMP).
