Obituary of Irma Jean Allen

Irma Jean Allen was born on December 18, 1945 to the loving parentage of Mrs. Cleo Deal Collier and Mr. Alvin Collier. Irma Jean was baptized at an early age by Elder T. Elias Harris, Christian Chapel Church, Port Gibson, Mississippi. She was active in Church Services, singing in the Church Choir, participating in Sunday School Classes, and in various Theatrical Plays during Easter and Christmas. She graduated from Addison High School, Port Gibson, Mississippi, in 1963, and attended Tougaloo College, Jackson, Mississippi for two years. She then attended Alcorn A&M College for one year. It was on May 1, 1958 that Irma first met David Allen, wrapping the May Pole. Then shortly after that while she was attending Alcorn A&M College, David Allen, who was in the U.S. Navy and stationed overseas, proposed marriage. Irma Jean accepted and they were married and both returned to his duty station overseas. Upon David's return to the U.S., they settled in Seaside California where they raised their two daughters, Patricia Lynn and Stephanie Rochelle Allen. She attended New Hope Baptist Church. Irma Jean obtained a job working for McGraw Hill for over thirty-three (33) years. David died May 4, 1996, and Irma Jean continued to work at McGraw Hill until her retirement in 2006. Irma Jean was a kind hearted, very genuine, loving, and compassionate lady. She always reached out to help others in need. She loved her family, and always put others' needs before her own. She loved praising the Lord, spending time with her family, holiday get togethers, the beach, and talking with friends. The road was getting too rough for Irma and hard to travel. Irma surrendered peacefully to God on October 26, 2015. As he called her name she took his hand and chose to walk down the path to the Promised Land. May she rest in eternal peace. Irma Jean was proceeded in death by her mother and father, her husband David Allen, and granddaughter Anais. Irma leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters, Patricia Lynn and Stephanie Rochelle Allen; granddaughters, Veronica, and Khalia; great grandson; brothers, Alvin Jones of Jackson, Mississippi, (Ret.) Chief Master Sergeant Leo Collier of Denver, Colorado; sister Eleanor Moraa Mageto of Kenya, Africa; brothers James Collier of Jackson, Mississippi, and (Ret.) Lt. Col. Charles Collier of Alexandria, Virginia; brother-in-law Archie Allen of Seaside, California; four sister-in-laws, Eva Blair of Chicago, Illinois, Lettie Floyd of Milwaukee, Johnny Knight, and Gladys Williams of Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
