Chalis Morris

Obituary of Chalis Lee Morris

Chalis was born in Ogallala, NE to Quentin and Kathryn Edwards Lunger. She grew up in Lincoln, NE with her older sister Kathy Sue, her mom Kate and extended family members, Valorous and Glenn Mills and their son Gary. They lived close to her Aunt and Uncle Betty and Red Smith and her cousins Valdeen and Roxi.

Chalis attended the University of NE-Lincoln and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She moved to CA in the 1970’s and completed her Bachelor of Education degree at UC Davis. Chalis was a dedicated elementary school teacher for 30 years. She retired in 2010 from her position at Alamo Elementary in Vacaville, CA after teaching side by side with her best friend, Kathy Morris for 29 years. Her move to CA brought her close to her West Coast family including her Aunts Mickey, Helen, and Polly; cousins Carol, Patt, Mike and “nephew” Cassidy along with many other cousins.

After her first “dog love” Frobie passed, Chalis developed a passion for raising and showing Wheaten Terriers, from Baxter Blu and Abbie Don’t and Bah Humbug to Charlie.

Chalis and her cherished husband, Lee Morris, moved to Monterey, CA after her retirement where she lived her dream life overlooking Monterey Bay until she died after a short illness. She is survived by her husband, Lee, her beloved dog, Charlie, many cousins, loyal friends, and many students with whom she has kept in contact over the years. She will be sorely missed and remembered as a creative hostess, a quilter, a collector of fine décor and baby dolls, and a card sender extraordinaire.

Chalis requested a private cremation and no services but wanted donations in her honor made to a charity benefiting animals like ASPCA or to the American Cancer Society.
